Reflections is an erotic paranormal romance

Sometimes detours are more than an inconvenience, or simply chance. For Teri Willis a change in route will lead to a homecoming in a place she has never been before, the possibility of finding answers about her long lost love, Jimmy Roads, and may lead to her death. For within the city limits of Spellfire Texas, where magic is common place, nothing is impossible.

Can Quinn discover and keep his true love before the demon that hunts him claims its prey? A writer and teacher, Quinn is drawn into a shadowy world where he encounters a dark haired woman that invades his nights. He soon realizes that dreams just might be able to kill, or at least what lurks within them may try. Outside the night's grasp, he finds Candy, who seems to be what sweet dreams should consist of, but within the gloom of darkness the truth may lay, within a warm smile a lie. Either could kill.

From an interview:

AJ- I have heard your work called erotic paranormal, erotic romance, erotic suspense. One reviewer called it sensual horror. The story on your site Forbidden Dreams: Lemon Tea takes a huge step away from Open Door and The Hunted. I think it fits what most would call Dark Romance.  Do you think any of these genres fit your work and do you enjoy moving from one genre to another?

HH – Tell me which one is selling best this week and I will be happy to let the publisher or public put that tag on it. Actually I am flattered to have any of those associated with my work. Erotic paranormal is a genre that lets us step outside the rules that govern us. We get to play with all kinds of creatures and the laws of physics can be tossed out the door. I have head people say it is easier to write erotic paranormal than some of the other genres because you do not have to play by the rules. I really don’t think that is true. A good erotic paranormal has to have threads of reality running through it the reader can relate to or you will never hold their interest. Erotic paranormal is a great genre to play ‘what if’ games in though.

Erotic romance, I think that is the foundation for all the other new and exciting genres we are seeing e-authors explore. It is an enticement of all the senses through the written word. Erotic romance touches the mind, the heart, the soul and if written well it touches the body. Erotic romance frees the passion within us and helps us understand that need for passion within us. Like the other erotic genres erotic romance is not for everyone. The kind of open honesty you find there about sex is really only for those with an open mind and who are comfortable with their own sexuality or at least willing to become that way.

Erotic Suspense, I think Open Door fits into this one even with its paranormal leanings. Suspense is a key element in any work of fiction. Suspense adds to the tension and tension is part of a good erotic story. It helps sharpen that knife’s edge I want my readers on from time to time. I enjoy blending erotic suspense and erotic paranormal, and of course erotic romance. After all one of the most interesting journeys we will take in life is that of connecting with another person. And yes I am a very hopeful romantic. A good suspense is really a tight rope act; foreshadowing, inside information, misleading clues, all balanced so the reader is never quite sure.

Sensual horror, the line between paranormal and horror is a little blurred for me. I think it is one of those arguments that can go in circles. I was talking to two young ladies the other day both of whom have read my work. One is an avid movie buff and the other an avid reader. They got into an argument about this very thing over Open Door. The movie buff said it was not sensual horror because no one got their head ripped off in it. The avid reader said it was sensual horror in a very Stephen King way. So I guess it comes down to what sensual horror is for you. I really like playing with the mental side of sensual horror and using the physical as the accenting point. So to have someone compare my work to King’s is a thrill.

Dark Romance, for me that is any romantic story that does not follow the traditional guidelines for a romance, Heroine and Hero are the center characters, their romance the center story, and a happy ever after ending. Dark Romance gives us the chance to explore places contemporary romance won't. Lemon Tea the first installment I did for Forbidden Dreams I think is romantic even if it looks at a subject a lot of romance readers don’t like, adultery. And Lemon Tea sure does not have a happy ever after ending. I do think it falls into the Dark romance genre.

Dark romance, erotic romance, erotic paranormal, erotic suspense, sensual horror, the nice thing with e-publishing I am free to blend those anyway I like. As for writing in different genres I think that makes me a better writer. It gives me a larger palette from which to draw on for the next book. So add one more, one of my current works in progress is an erotic western.

We are standing at the dawn of a new era in publishing. E-books (ebooks) along with e-publishing are changing the way even the set in cement NY publishers are looking at books. E-books have opened a flood gate that will not be closed. Some will try, and yes the e-market is feeling growing pains. Not always with grace, but it is growing. E-books are the chap books of the 21st century. If you are determined to get your story out there you can. We have seen e-publishers come and go. Not unlike the print world. Just as in the print world the ones with a sound business plan, good writers and editors are becoming names more people recognize every day. There is no doubt as technology improves to support e-books, and as the e-book industry matures, the top line e-publishers will be recognized  and this medium  will become more excepted.

Right now those that have embraced e-books are pioneers. They will blaze the trail for the less adventurous to follow.
